1. Biz Idea 4 U 1: Pop Up Shops

   In Europe and the USA, there are companies who operate "pop up shops" - usually brands who take over a retail space for a few weeks and use the different location as a way to try out new lines or new promotions.
   
   In Malaysia, there are no such shops, although at 1Utama Mall there is Shop-in-a-Box and at Sunway there is the Online Blog Shop, both of which give other small retailers the chance to display their goods in a high traffic Mall, without the expense of their own outlet.
   
   With the Asia Pop Up Shops concept, the idea just gets bigger - we would take over empty shop spaces in a Mall for 2-3 weeks, and give space for about 10 retailers / manufacturers / brand names to try new products and promotions.
   
   The Pop Up Shop programme for each Pop Up Shop would include a PR and marketing blitz to make sure our Pop Up Shop partners got excellent value for their investment.

2. Biz Idea 4 U 2: Online Niche Store (via PostMe.com.my)
   
   
   
   Big opportunity to gather small retailers and present their products in a big way on the Net.
   
   Pos Malaysia has now set up PostMe.com.my which gives sellers the chance to not only set up their online store but also provides shipping and logistics for real products.
   
   The concept is to define a niche (we are looking at Halal products first in a store called Only Halal but the concept can be extended to any niche market) and would give small producers and non-Internet users a chance to sell their products widely throughout Malaysia (and internationally).

Day 2 Biz Ideas 4 U

Hey everybody

Biz Ideas 4 U today brings you another 2 ideas whose has, (or may have anyway:), come:

1. Biz Idea 4 U 1: Branded hourly maid service
   
   
   
   In Malaysia there are live-in maids and there are the daily or hourly maid services, who supply maids by the hour for cleaning etc.
   
   These are mostly "cottage industry" maid agencies, although there are a few more professional outfits.
   
   But nowhere near enough to meet demand, especially with the Indonesian maid ban.
   
   There is an opportunity to set up a branded, high-quality daily maid service particularly in KL but also other parts of Malaysia. This requires management and operational procedures to be developed to ensure high quality maids / cleaners and service delivery, so will probably take it down a licensed or franchised model.
   
   Can even be tied to a branded cleaning goods maker for easier brand recognition.

2. Biz Idea 4 U 2: Re-charge Infrastructure for electric bikes / motorbikes
   
   
   
   Now that the Malaysian government has approved electric bikes / motorbikes for use on the roads, the electric bike makers (both here in Malaysia like Modenas and Eclimo and I guess the big Chinese and Indonesian makers) will be on a sales push.
   
   But just like the electric car or the hydrogen powered car, the big thing missing is the infrastructure.
   
   As someone who used to ride an electric motorbike in Australia, I know that the re-charge has to be simple, easy and convenient. And at both ends of the ride - home and work (because your bike may as well be re-charging at work while it's doing nothing right?)
   
   So this Biz Idea 4 U is to set up the motorbike re-charge facilities in work spaces, carparks and condos.
   
   Needs some tech and design work to design the re-charge ports (I am seeing that as a ppost with charging outlets) but also needs a payment facility (coins / notes based on re-charge time or amount of electricity).

Welcome to Biz Ideas 4 U - the place where I get to spin out my latest biz ideas and you get to see if I have anything you can get excited about.

New Green Stuff I am working on - interested in working with me on these?

I haven't got the time to pursue all of these (as I have roughly 2 new biz ideas a day:), but would love idealistic young entrepreneurs to pick up any of these ideas and run with them (with my help and mentoring). Biz, marketing and operational plans are prepared for all.

NB: I am based in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, but many of these solutions will be suitable for many countries / cities in Asia, so if you live somewhere else in Asia that needs recycling programs, let's discuss.

• Commercial building re-fits - looking for pilot projects in Klang Valley for HVAC / Boiler refit under a no cost / shared returns model - allied with U Watertech http://www.uwatertech.com/ and partnering with Malaysian service provider companies
  
  
• KL (Kuala Lumpur) Condo Recycling Program - working on a model that not only provides the equipment for recycling but actually gets waste recycled (rather than just separate at source / combine at dump) Somehow I have to get rid of all the newspaper and recyclables I have built up:) - early stage discussions commencing wth Alam Flora to see what, if anything, is possible with the current infrstructure.
  
  
• Pothole Central - community-based pothole repair model - seeing if we can't reduce the wasted time, fuel and cost of pothole damage by using a community-based (but profitable) model - research stage, but we figure that local council / authorities the world over have failed in this area - not just Malaysia - so there must be a better way!
  
  
• Condo Feeder Bus - another concept that needs a lot of collaboration with many parties., both private and public. This project is designed to shuttle condo residents in Kl from condos to feeder locations (LRT / KTM / buses) in a way that is efficient, attractive and cost-effective. This is probably a long way from reality at this time!
